Modern Mixtape FAQ

What is Spotify®?

Spotify® is a music streaming service that allows you to listen to their massive library of music which is regularly updated with new tracks.  Spotify® offers both free and paid memberships and can be used on devices with an internet connection, such as a smart phone, tablet, or computer.

How to Find and Save Spotify® Codes

Spotify® Codes are assigned to every song, album, artist, and playlist that is available on Spotify®.  The codes can be found on devices that are using the Spotify® Mobile App on a smart phone or tablet.

While viewing a song, album, artist, or playlist on your smart phone, tap the “three dots” menu button and the Spotify® Code will be located under the cover art.  Take a screen shot and you can send the image to us to create your customized item!

Free vs. Paid Spotify® Accounts

When using the unpaid version of Spotify® (“Spotify® Free”), you do not have the ability to choose an individual song or track to play on demand.  If a Spotify® Free user scans a Code for a song, the album that the song appears on will appear instead and you will have the option to shuffle play that album.

If you are purchasing an item for someone who uses Spotify® Free, we do not recommend using a Spotify® Code for an individual song as the user will not be able to see which song was chosen.  You can instead add your chosen song to a playlist and provide the Code for that playlist.

If a Spotify® Premium user scans the code for a song, it will begin to play instantly after scanning!

When scanning a Spotify® Code for a playlist, album, or artist, the app will open the page for the chosen location and allow you to hit the play button for both Spotify® Free and Spotify® Premium users.

 How to Use/Scan Spotify® Codes

  1. Using a smartphone or tablet, open your Spotify® App.
  2. Tap “Search” in the menu at the bottom of the screen
  3. Tap the image of a camera in the top right corner of the screen
  4. A camera window will open; Center the Spotify® Code in the camera window and allow your camera to focus on the Code.  Once the Code scans, it will take you to the song, playlist, album, or artist that the code belongs to!

Tips and Tricks

For the Spotify® Code to scan, the entire Code must be in the same light without reflections or shadows.  You may need to angle and/or move your camera around to distribute even light on the Code.

Your camera will need to focus on the Spotify® Code and zooming in too close to it may make this difficult!  Codes will normally scan as long as the entire Code is in the camera window and the camera is able to auto-focus on it.  No need to use the zoom feature or get the camera incredibly close to the Code.

Please Note - When using the unpaid version of Spotify® (“Spotify® Free”), you do not have the ability to choose an individual song or track to play on demand.
